OMFSurgery is one of the recognized specialities of dentistry in the US

The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery OMFSurgeons as "The experts in face, mouth and oral surgery"

The scope of the field is pretty extensive, and it covers:

Dento Alveolar, wisdom teeth, implants

Orthognathic surgery

TMJ surgery

Facial reconstruction post Trauma

Bone regeneration/Reconstruction

Facial cosmetic surgery

Management of Odontogenic infections 

And much more..

Lets fast forward to dental school, and lets also assume you have decided to pursue this wonderful specialty 

One of the basic requirements to apply is to have a DDS or a DMD from an ADA accredited dental school

-Some programs also restrict seats to US citizens/Permanent residents only

-There are 2 tracks the 4 yr OMFS certificate or the 6 yr combined OMFS/MD program

-In most programs you have to pay tuition for the duration of the Med school

-While on OMFS service you do get paid a stipend

-There are some programs that sponsor Visa's for international candidates, but those are harder to get into
